Sipping café con leche at a winery in the Ribera del Duero region of Spain

Greetings! My name’s Danielle and I’m the captain of this ship. I’m a recent college grad/proud Smithie living in Madrid. I’m here, as you are I hope, to talk about food.

Just like many of the important decisions I’ve made in my life (my college major, for example, or that time I decided to move to Spain), the decision to start a blog about food started mostly as a joke. After laughing myself to sleep and then giving it some serious thought, I realized a couple of things.

First, I love eating, smelling, listening to, learning about, thinking about, laughing at, criticizing, philosophizing, questioning and sharing all things food. It’s a passion (obsession, really) that I’ve been pursuing in various ways for my whole life. Also, I never shut up about it and in order to salvage any semblance of a relationship with the people in my life who like talking about, for example, anything else, I needed to find an outlet to voice my thoughts and ideas.

I created this blog to tell stories. I want to tell the stories that are hidden or forgotten (to see how this relates to the name Dandelion Greens, check out my first post here). There’s a lot to unpack, and the stories aren’t always warm and fuzzy. But on a more hopeful note, there’s an expansive web of compassionate producers, thoughtful consumers, and food visionaries all working towards a more equitable and robust food system. The world of food is a fascinating and dynamic place, full of challenges and rewards, and there is so much work to be done that it’s hard to know where to begin. I hope this blog will help me find my place in that world.

Thanks for joining me,

Danielle Jacques (food eater, lover, and writer now, I guess)
